We Ghosted Media Ventures into Decentralized Kids’ Series with “Owen Nowhere”

A groundbreaking animated children’s series, “Owen Nowhere,” is set to redefine the landscape of kids’ entertainment by launching on a decentralized web platform that incorporates blockchain technology. We Ghosted Media, the studio behind this initiative, has partnered with Lamina1, signaling a shift from traditional broadcasting and streaming methods to a new age of digital storytelling.

Innovative Approach with Blockchain Technology

Founded by industry veterans Chris Jammal, known for his work on “Bob’s Burgers,” and Jaclynn Demas, the producer of “Peg + Cat,” We Ghosted Media aims to embrace the principles of web3. By using a blockchain platform, the studio hopes to empower creators and audiences alike, promoting interactive engagement with content.

Lamina1, the studio’s partner, was established by acclaimed author Neal Stephenson, who introduced the concept of the metaverse in his novel “Snow Crash.” The platform focuses on providing creators with the tools to protect and monetize their intellectual property within an expansive digital environment.

The Concept of “Owen Nowhere”

“Owen Nowhere” revolves around the adventures of a preteen named Owen B. Gloom, who aspires to be a content creator while exploring quirky tourist attractions with his unique family—comprised of adoptive vampire parents, a magical transforming vehicle, a pet cat, and a stroller-bound fish. This humorous yet heartfelt narrative is designed to resonate with both young audiences and adults.

According to Jammal and Demas, the series aims to set a “new standard for the future of children’s entertainment in the decentralized era.” This innovative project will leverage Lamina1’s upcoming “Spaces,” enabling creators to build immersive virtual worlds that facilitate interactive storytelling and community involvement.

Interactive Engagement and Community Involvement

The decentralized model not only presents viewing experiences but also allows audience participation. Features will include exclusive behind-the-scenes content, collectible digital assets, and opportunities for users to influence storylines—such as voting on the family’s travel destinations. This participatory approach is anticipated to foster a community of invested viewers.

Jammal elaborated on the interactive potential: “We were thinking [fans could] vote for where the Glooms can travel next. Do you want them to come to your hometown? Maybe they want to buy that souvenir that Owen picked up at the Grand Canyon as their own digital asset. There are so many possibilities of how this can go.”

Challenges and Considerations

Despite this innovative framework, We Ghosted Media faces significant challenges. One major obstacle is guiding children through a platform that requires a crypto wallet, as parental concerns about financial exposure and security issues could arise. Yet, the growing interest in digital currencies among some parents—evidenced by initiatives like crypto summer camps—may mitigate these apprehensions for a segment of the audience.

Lamina1’s CEO, Rebecca Barkin, acknowledged the existing concerns and the need for protective measures as the project unfolds: “I won’t tell you that we have the perfect answer right now…we’re going to learn real fast as this develops, what protections need to be put in place.”

Future Developments and Goals

By introducing digital assets that fans can purchase, including artwork and character outfits, the studio aspires to cultivate a community invested in the series. Barkin mentioned the concept of a loyalty token that facilitates community engagement rather than focusing solely on financial transactions.

This initiative not only engages children but also seeks to attract adult viewers, aiming for a broader demographic appeal similar to that of “Bob’s Burgers.” The launch of Lamina1’s Spaces, expected in the fall, represents a pivotal moment for creators exploring the evolution of interactive entertainment.

In summary, “Owen Nowhere” promises a fresh narrative experience while also venturing into the uncharted territory of blockchain technology in children’s programming, setting the stage for a new era of entertainment.
