Amazon’s new internal directive will go into effect in January. But a survey of more than 1,000 corporate employees by the Center for Strategic Organizing shows that many may already be in the workforce.
In September, Amazon made an announcement that surprised not only many company employees, but also technology observers who had assumed hybrid work was the norm among industry giants. The tech giant will require all employees to return to the office five days a week starting in January, in a bid to denounce hybrid policies common in the tech industry.
Many employees remained dissatisfied with Amazon’s requirement to return to the office for three days. The mandate took effect in 2023 and had already required some employees to stay away from the office or quit. But Amazon’s latest policy goes several steps beyond that and appears to be already encouraging employees to leave.
