How Heather M. Linn transformed resilience into a community built on relationships, purpose, and belonging.

From Personal Growth to a Greater Purpose

Some businesses are built to generate profit. A rare few are built to create lasting impact. Smolder Cigar Lounge was built to do both, and its story begins with the woman behind it.

Heather M. Linn’s greatest transformation was not opening a cigar lounge. It was discovering her own confidence and purpose. That personal growth became the foundation for everything she would later build.

Growing up with hardship and raising three daughters as a single mother taught Heather resilience long before she became a business owner. Rather than allowing those experiences to define her, she chose to build something that reflected hope, connection, and opportunity. Her vision was never simply to open a business. It was to create a place where people could feel seen, valued, and welcomed.

That vision became reality on September 3, 2022, when Smolder Cigar Lounge opened in Aurora, Colorado.

“I wanted to create a place where people could relax, build relationships, and feel like they belong,” Heather says.

A Cigar Lounge Built Around Community

Walking into Smolder, visitors quickly realize the experience is about far more than premium cigars. Comfortable seating, thoughtful design, private member lockers, and a welcoming atmosphere create an environment where conversations naturally unfold and strangers often become friends.

Located at 22691 E. Aurora Parkway, adjacent to The Gentlemen’s Groom Room and Parkway Bar & Grill, Smolder has become one of Colorado’s most purpose driven cigar destinations, blending traditional cigar culture with a strong sense of community and belonging.

Heather believes cigars simply slow people down long enough to have conversations that matter. Business deals, lifelong friendships, mentorships, and charitable partnerships often begin the same way: two people sitting together with time to listen.

That philosophy has shaped every part of Smolder’s culture. Relationships come before transactions, and people often leave with far more than they expected.

“People don’t just come here for cigars,” Heather says. “They come here for the conversations, the friendships, and the atmosphere.”

Leading With Authenticity

In an industry traditionally led by men, Heather has built her business through authenticity, inclusivity, and genuine relationships.

Rather than trying to redefine cigar culture, she has expanded it by creating a space where seasoned enthusiasts and newcomers alike feel equally welcome. Her leadership is rooted in listening, encouraging connection, and creating an environment where everyone has a place.

That approach has built a loyal community that sees Smolder as more than a lounge. For many members, it has become a second home.

Building Community Beyond Business

For Heather, success has always carried responsibility.

Through the Smolder Foundation, she has helped provide thousands of backpacks and school supplies for students, supported families during the holidays, honored veterans and first responders, and created programs focused on mentorship and community connection. The foundation exists because she remembers what it felt like to need help, and she wants others to know someone is always in their corner.

Her commitment to giving back extends throughout the year, bringing together local businesses, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and community leaders to support families, youth programs, veterans, and underserved communities.

“Business should uplift people,” Heather says. “If you’re successful, you should use that platform to help others.”

That belief has transformed Smolder into something larger than a business. It has become a place where community involvement grows naturally from meaningful relationships.

Creating Experiences That Matter

Heather has also reimagined what a community gathering place can be.

Signature events, including the annual Cars & Cigars Charity Car and Motorcycle Show, bring together automotive enthusiasts, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders in support of meaningful causes. Throughout the year, themed gatherings, celebrations, and charitable events continue to strengthen relationships that extend well beyond the lounge itself.

Each event reflects Heather’s belief that when people come together with purpose, lasting impact follows.

Building an Ecosystem of Opportunity

Heather’s vision extends far beyond a single business.

Alongside Smolder Cigar Lounge, she founded The Gentlemen’s Groom Room barbershop and the Smolder Foundation, creating an interconnected network centered on opportunity, service, and community growth.

Her barbershop offers barbers, particularly single parents, the opportunity to build independent careers and financial stability, reflecting the same determination that shaped her own journey. The Smolder Foundation provides the charitable structure that allows those efforts to reach even further into the community.

Together, these organizations demonstrate Heather’s belief that businesses can become platforms for meaningful change when people remain at the center of every decision.

“Success means more when you can share it with others,” she says.

Looking Ahead

As Smolder continues to grow, Heather remains focused on expanding opportunities for connection, strengthening community partnerships, and creating spaces where people feel they belong.

The lounge itself may have introduced many people to premium cigars, but the lasting impression is something far more meaningful. It is the relationships formed, the conversations shared, and the sense of community that keeps people returning.

In many ways, Smolder reflects its founder. It is resilient, welcoming, and built on the belief that meaningful relationships can change lives.

Heather did not simply build a successful business. She built a community where people can connect, support one another, and discover that sometimes the most important thing shared across a table is not the cigar, but the conversation.
